GET TO KNOW GREG

Greg Arnett is Counselor and Owner of Swan Creek Counseling. In 2021, Greg completed a Master of Arts in Counseling degree from The Townsend Institute at Concordia University, Irvine.  After graduation, he successfully completed all of his requirements to become a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Michigan. Prior to becoming a full-time counselor, he was a 30+ year veteran in Director of Christian Education ministry and served three congregations in the Mid-West.

Greg has been married to Cathy since 1987. Together they have three children, a daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren. Greg enjoys playing guitar, bass guitar, and the djembe. He also enjoys woodworking, hunting, backpacking and playing sports.

COUNSELING STYLE

Greg was trained in listening skills during the late 1980s and has been doing some pastoral counseling ever since. He has received additional training and certification in youth mental health first aid, financial counseling, and calling and caring ministries. He has been trained in the Townsend character and competencies model, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, spiritual formation, and group leadership.

Although Greg uses many different psychological tools, depending on the client’s needs, he is particularly drawn to Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy, corrective emotional experiences, somatic experiencing, trauma work, and story work.

When it fits with the desire of the client, Greg is happy to bring prayer and Biblical counsel into the therapy sessions.

TOWNSEND MODEL

We all want the good fruit of healthy relationships, personal strength, and work performance in our lives. The way that we were designed to achieve this is by absorbing the nutrients of grace and truth, over time like a tree’s roots would absorb moisture and minerals from the soil. Such nurturing causes growth through the character development stages of attachment, separation, integration, and adulthood.

During counseling, you will receive grace, truth, and time to grow. As your counselor, Greg will help you identify which parts of your character structure need growth and ways to encourage this growth. Over time, you will find that your life bears healthier and more abundant fruit in the areas of relationships with other people, in your personal life, and in the capacity to function in your world.

You will find that Greg is not your run-of-the-mill counselor. He is very interactive, will help you get to the root of your problems, and will give you lasting change in your life. He is trained very differently than the majority of counselors out there, is a life-long learner himself, and will bring all of this to you as the client so that you can move towards wholeness in your life.
